About The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski"The Dude Hates Cancer" draws its name from the lead character in the Coen Brothers' film The Big Lebowski, which is, quite simply, the greatest bowling-related movie of all time. The film features an all-star cast highlighted by Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey Lebowski (or more appropriately, "The Dude"), John Goodman as The Dude's best friend and bowling teammate, Walter Sobchak, Steve Buschemi as Theodore Donald "Donny" Kerabatsos, Julianne Moore as Maude Lebowski, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the personal assistant of a domineering tycoon also named Jeffrey Lebowski. Also making appearances are John Turturro (Jesus Quintana) and Tara Reid (Bunny Lebowski). All give memorable performances, perhaps none moreso than Bridges as the movie's lead character.

The film itself didn't break any sales records at the box office, but has since become an undeniable cult classic; so much so that the movie spawned its own festival (Lebowski Fest, with annual parties across the country where fans gather to celebrate the film), book (I'm a Lebowski, You're a Lebowski: Life, The Big Lebowski, and What Have You), religion(!) (Dudeism, check here for more:, and now, charity bowling tournament.

If you're a bowler of any frequency and you haven't seen this movie -- or even if you've never rolled -- please do yourself a favor and rent it today. You won't regret it.

Jeff Bridges, who played The Dude in The Big Lebowski, recently won a long-deserved Best Actor Oscar and is one of America's most accomplished performers with a career dating all the way back to the 1950's. Besides playing The Dude, Bridges has also starred in hit movies like Seabiscuit, The Vanishing, The Fisher King, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Starman, and Tron, along with more recent hit roles in Crazy Heart (Best Actor winner), True Grit, Tron: Legacy, and The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Mr. Bridges has blessed our event with his generosity, having donated autogrpahed prizes to The Dude Hates Cancer every year since 2008. His donations have included an autographed bowling pin and a photobook of shots he took during the filming of The Big Lebowski, an autographed Big Lebowski t-shirt on which he drew a portrait of his character in the movie, and other movie memorabilia. We can't thank him enough for his incredible kind and generous support, and we encourage you to check out his website,, for more information on his career:
